5 Style lessons I learned from Sex and The City

Sex and the City is making a comeback! Three of the four leading ladies are returning for a ten episode reboot on HBO Max, named “And just like that”. How do you feel about the show’s return? I’ve always loved SATC, and I’m curious to see which direction this reboot will take. Kim Cattrall will sadly not be returning for the reboot. I will definitely miss her character Samantha!

Carrie was my favorite character and I loved her fashion style. Her blue Manolo’s, her pink tulle look from the first episode and her Christian Dior newspaper dress are a few things that pop into my head when I think about Carrie’s fashion style.

This show taught us a lot of things about life, fashion and friendship. Today, I’ve listed 5 style lessons I learned from watching Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte strut around the streets of New York City.

1. Personal style is personal, so be yourself

All four women had such different styles, but looked amazing separately and together. They showed us that style is something personal and that there aren’t any rules. Fashion should to be fun, so wear what you want and dare to be bold with it. They wore what they liked, whether that was mixing different prints, color blocking or wearing tulle. Everything was possible, because style is all about you.

2. Shoes are everything

Shoes can make or break your outfit and Carrie knew that. They are your statement pieces and complete your look. Her blue Manolo’s are my favorite pair of her whole collection, even though they aren’t part of the original series. These gorgeous blue heels from the first SATC movie are still iconic to this day. (Her pink snake print boots from the series are a close second though.)

3. You can never be overdressed

Fashion rules are there to break. And these four woman definitely broke them all. Style is personal, so if you feel like wearing a fancy dress to go grocery shopping, why not just do it? Carrie always wore what she wanted. Because why should you care what others think of your outfit choices?

4. Workwear doesn’t have to be boring

Samantha and Miranda rocked the occasional power suit, and they showed that those looks didn’t need to be boring. Bright colors, oversized fits and statement accessories. Their looks were far from tedious, and I love that. I always look for a way to level up my tailored looks and statement colors are a great way to do that.

5. Trends aren’t here to stay

Trends come and go, but style is forever. There’s nothing wrong with jumping on a fashion trend, but first see if it fits within your personal style. Because as said before style is personal, and you want your outfits to reflect who you are. So alter the trend to match your style instead of copying the full look.
