How to create a morning routine that will actually stick

Whether you are a morning person or not, creating a morning routine and being consistent with it is not easy. It took me a while to get used to my current routine, and it still isn’t fully where I want it to be, but that’s okay. My routine can grow overtime. A morning routine is important because it sets the tone for the rest of the day. It can make you feel very productive and put you in a good mood, which will make you excited for the rest of the day. Want to have a morning routine that you’ll actually stick to? Here are my three tips:

Identify what’s important to you

What’s important to you? What are your goals? Who do you want to be? It’s important to know why you want to have these things in your morning routine, because that will motivate you.

There are tons of articles out there about the best morning routines, but copying those only works for a few days. You can take inspiration from other routines and add a few of those habits into your own routine, but make sure you know why you want to do these things. Knowing the why is what will give you the motivation to actually do them and be consistent with your routine.

Keep it simple

When creating a morning routine it’s best to keep it simple. Start with one or two things and add more if they’ve become a habit. If you start with a lot of things at once you’ll feel overwhelmed, and you might lose motivation. I find it works best to start with one or two things like working out and journaling, and adding more when those have become a habit.

Tip: If you’re easily demotivated, make it easier to do the steps of your routine. You can lay out your workout outfit the night before or prep your healthy breakfast so you can just sit down and eat in the morning.

Have something to look forward to

The best thing to get you excited for the next day is to have something to look forward to. Whether that’s your favorite breakfast, a good book or just a cup of delicious coffee, something that makes you excited to jump out of bed in the morning will make it easier to stick to your morning routine.

A morning routine is a great way to start your day. It can get you in a good mood and make you feel productive, which sets the tone for the rest of your day. I always keep these three things in mind when I want to change something to my morning routine. It has really helped me to create a routine that I actually stick to and look forward to.
